HAOUZ N° 270HZ
A highly exceptional Berber rug with an ultra fine surface, 1940-1950 or older, from either the Plains of Marrakech or further down south in the Siroua region. It reflects strong characteristics of both regions and can’t be attributed to either one clearly. The drawing depicts a train of camels on each side of the rug (left and right) and small medallions in the center inspired by motifs from urban carpets. The color variation in the background, which adds more liveliness to the piece, is knotted in different hues of coral.
This carpet was part of a Swiss collection and is featured in GHEREH 20 (1999). The article ‘Moroccan Carpets – Urban und Rural Weavings’, written by Gebhart Blazek, can be sent as a PDF upon request.
