BENI YACOUB N° 324BY

This Beni Yacoub prestige cover, 1930s-1940s, from southern Morocco is characterized by a rich color palette, a fine lustrous wool in the knotted design bands, alternating horizontal stripes in light dark contrasts and thin bands using the weft twining technique. Although strong stylistic influences from the neighboring Ait Ouaouzguite confederation are clearly evident, the pattern in this example turns out more playful and lively. The overall design is made with a mixed technique of pile and flatweave, creating a slight relief-like surface. Such examples have almost completely disappeared from the market in Morocco. Please note: This piece can be used as a floor covering and shows some minor age-appropriated traces of wear.
