PILE RUG N° 226OU

A voluminous pile rug with an austere yet strong design consisting of three open fields showing sharp contrasts of light and dark. It is knotted from beautiful, undyed but rather coarsely processed wool, which gives the rug an attractive three-dimensional quality. It appears to be an Anatolian Tulu from Turkey, a view confirmed by two colleagues in the field who both believe it most likely originates from Central Anatolia. How it ended up in Morocco or whether it was commissioned locally with reference to a Tulu rug remains a mystery. Nevertheless, it is a strikingly unique piece, perhaps best suited for a mountain home due to its rather corpulent quality.
