BENI M’GUILD N° RH04

A rare and prestigious Beni M’Guild from the 1950s stemming from the central Middle Atlas region. In opposition to the monochrome carpets made for sleeping by the Beni M’Guild tribe this carpet was most probably made to welcome guests or for celebrations. This particular example has two parts with completely different designs divided by a narrow kilim band. The weaver took either a break from weaving to then start over with a complete new motif or someone else finished the rug. The richly decorated piece shows an attractive color variation in the background. It is vivid and rich in color, complex in design and highly unusual.
